New French Classical & the Rider

The great thing about this style is that it's not hard work!!! Because the rider is not trying to force the horse into a shape and works with the horse's body and mind, all that is required is that the rider sits with relaxed poise. I was originally trained German style and can remember riding in the middle of winter in a T-shirt. Riding isn't supposed to feel like a workout in the gym! The very best description that I can give of New French Classical Equitation is that it is a pilates/yoga workout for both horse and rider. Work slowly to achieve maximum stretch and balance. Use both the horse's and the rider's core stability - as do all sports whether riding, martial arts, dancing etc. So much more fun than a visit to the gym!

When you first learn to ride it's basically a matter of learning to stay on with the minimum of discomfort! And that's as far as some people want to go (no shame in that - we all want different things in life thank goodness) but some people walk away from their lessons feeling a nagging irritation. Half the time they don't know why they feel that way - just that something is missing or lacking in their riding. Or they feel frustrated that they are not progressing in their riding and gaining that real connectivity. These are the people I LOVE teaching! I am not a natural rider myself - every mistake you'll ever make - I made it first! But instead of just blindly following instructions that my own and other rider's bodies and minds just didn't seem to find logical, I worked out a route to how to get to the end result without all the struggle inbetween.
