Freelance Teaching

A large amount of my work is freelance and this ranges from owners with Andalusians and Endurance Arabs to ex-gypsy caravan horses. (We had fun persuading the caravan horse he was allowed to walk through a narrow gateway and he didn't have to walk in the middle of his side of the road!).

Whilst I do have some riders who simply wish to 'tidy' their riding, alot of my work is with 'problem' horses. (Normally the horse was never originally backed correctly, or never schooled-on or suffered back/saddle/teething problems). There can be no greater reward granted to an instuctor than to see a 'problem' happily and calmly being ridden, normally by a rider beaming from ear to ear, incredulous that her 'monster' is no more! A joy too, to see a rider who came to me to 'tidy' her riding begin to realise that 'tidying' can open the floodgates to new feelings and responses from their horse - making for a more pleasant ride for both of them! Whether you want to improve your safety whilst hacking out your 'steady cob' or perform 'airs above the ground' on your competition horse, classical riding will answer all your questions.

Centuries old classical methods work time and time again - irrespective of breed, temperament or age.

Frequently I am asked to back youngsters and while I will take these home if there is no alternative, I always think it is better financially, emotionally and educationally for you to be trained to help back your horse. To back a horse classically takes weeks - which is expensive and you lose that opportunity to bond with your horse. I will take you through step-by-step and leave you to the day-by-day work. I am always at the end of the phone!

I travel with no additional charges up to 20 minutes drive from Twyford, Nr Winchester. I am prepared to travel anywhere in the country but will charge for time and travel.
